The Cat in the Hat Comes Back (in the iPad!)

The other day my daughter pulled out a worn 1958 copy of The Cat in the Hat Comes Back for story time. From the first phrase, I found myself immersed in the role of reading and rhyme – after all, “this was no time for play, this was no time for fun, this was no time for games, there was work to be done!” The work of reading can be FUN, and Dr. Seuss consistently uncovers that magic for both parents and children while immersed in his world. Through the efforts of Oceanhouse Media, Dr. Seuss’s content is available on the iPad.

I realize that we continue to debate books vs. apps, and apps vs. books, and how it all impacts the path toward reading. But I believe it is the enthusiasm for reading, regardless of the medium, that will make the ultimate difference to my daughters. My voice and intonations, booming out those seriously cheerful Seussian phrases, are moments that matter.

This week, to recognize Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America Day, Oceanhouse Media will be celebrating. Look for new Dr. Seuss app releases on March 1st from Oceanhouse Media with special discounted prices.  Here are some ways to stay informed about the promotions:

Why all of the attention, the buzz, the fuss? Just see for yourself, and you’ll realize, it’s a must!

Now don’t ask me what Voom is.

I never will know.

But, boy! Let me tell you

It DOES clean up snow!

“So you see!” laughed the Cat,

“Now your snow is all white!

Now your work is all done!

Now your house is all right!

And you know where my little cats are?”

Said the Cat

“That Voom blew my little cats

Back in my hat.

And so, if you ever

Have spots, now and then,

I will be very happy

To come here again…”

  1. I absolutely agree with you. If kids are enthusiastic about reading, regarless of the medium the are reading on, that will build on itself and create a love for stories. My first grader also loves the Dr. Seuss apps from Oceanhouse Media – they have done a wonderful job of staying true to Dr. Seuss’s original stories, but creating a fun interactive experience.
