App Friday: Keep The Bar in Perspective

The Numberlys (the latest from ex-Pixar Lessmore fame) are on my mind. Without even downloading it, I can already feel the cinematography oozing. It will receive superb reviews, and universal acclaim. It will be perfect. It will make me notice the audio static on my sound files, the user-interface snafus in my navigation, and the less-than-laser clarity of my graphics. But I don’t mind. My imperfections were made in my living room lab. My apps were tested with sticky fingers. And if I’m a little rough around the edges, that just means I’ve got plenty of room left to use my imagination.

Featured Apps (Click the image to read the app descriptions in iTunes. App Friday promotional pricing lasts until 8pm US PST Friday, unless extended by the developer.)

Word Wizard, by L'Escapadou
Pierre at L’Escapadou is our banner participant this week, and he’s promoting several titles this App Friday. Word Wizard, a text-to-speech app, is $2.99. Montessori Crosswords, a spelling app, is set to $.99. Draw With Stars, an 0pen-ended drawing app, is FREE. Draw With Hearts, another drawing app with lots of pink, is ALWAYS FREE. Thank you Pierre for this fantastic display of specially priced, high quality apps.

I, Trixie, written by Dean Koontz, created by Auryn Apps
I, Trixie Who is Dog, by Auryn Apps, is $.99 for App Friday. Starting with a personal video from the author,  I Trixie is a storybook app about a dog with big dreams. There are options within the app to personalize the story through drawings, sound, and text. Auryn Apps has an impressive library of book apps, so if you like this one, you may want to check out their others.

Caboose Learn to Recognize and Complete Patterns, by Reks
Caboose – Learn to Recognize and Complete Patterns, by Reks, is FREE this App Friday. This app focuses on patterns and sequences. I like how the user can customize settings on how to select the object (tap or drag & drop), and the type of pattern. Once you play around with the settings, you can create a set-up appropriate for your child.

Peekaboo at the Zoo, by TreeBetty
Peek-a-Zoo, by TreeBetty, is FREE for App Friday. The illustrations in this app are really nice (I liked the blue frog the best), and in order to see the animal, the child has to tap the screen to find out where it’s hiding. You have options to explore your favorite animals, or take the journey through the zoo.

Funny Kid Poems, be We Are Faces
Funny Kids Poems, by We Are Faces, is $.99 this App Friday. Each icon represents an illustrated and narrated poem, which can be read in either Russian or English. While the poem is being narrated, animations progress along with the rhyme. The option exists to turn off background music. The other two buttons on the front page head to iTunes ratings and the developer website.

Animal Preschool Games HD, by Bruce McLaren (SmarTots enabled)

Animal Preschool Games HD by Bruce McLaren is FREE for App Friday. This app has multiple activities like matching, rhyming, counting and spot-the-difference. The SmarTots reporting package is optional and can be retrieved at  your preference.
