Earlier on our forums, it became evident that many developers in the Moms With Apps network were recipients of Parents’ Choice Awards. One of our members volunteered to write up a summary in honor of the recipients. Thanks Mindy Douglas of Software Smoothie for bringing these accolades to our attention!
The Parents’ Choice Awards are recognized by parents worldwide as a symbol for excellence and as a guide for selecting quality toys and products for children. According to their website, the Parents’ Choice Foundation’s purpose is to “search out and recommend products that help kids grow- imaginatively, physically, morally and mentally- fairly priced products that are fun, safe and socially sound.” They emphasize the need for children’s material to “sharpen young minds” and support the notion that children learn best through enjoyment. Additionally, the foundation seeks in its mission statement to provide parents with information needed to make informed decisions about their children’s learning.
I can’t help but appreciate the similarities in the Parents’ Choice Foundation’s guiding principles and those of Moms With Apps. The Moms With Apps Forum and published blogs echo many of these recurring themes, particularly the parent’s role in being an active participant in a child’s use of technology. Parents and developers are working together to create quality products for children. Developers are working especially hard to ensure that parents have all of the information needed to make informed decisions in selecting apps for their children. It does not surprise me at all to see so many MWA developers recognized in this year’s Parents’ Choice Awards in the Mobile Application category.
